Location: Liben zone :  GuraDamole, Gorabaqaqsa

Afder Zone : Qooxle,Chareti ,West Imay, Elkari, and Raso

Doollo Zone: Daratole, Galadi,Danot and Bokh

Duration of Assignment: 12 months (renewable based on performance and funding availability)

Reporting Line: Reports to Zonal EPI Coordinator and other line positions as required

Number of positions: 16 (1 position per woreda)

A. Purpose of the Role

The EPI Project Officer/EPI Expert at the Woreda level is responsible for managing and supporting

immunization activities within the Woreda. This role involves implementing immunization plans,

coordinating with woreda health office and health facilities, ensuring vaccine availability, monitoring cold

chain systems, and promoting community awareness to increase immunization coverage in alignment

with regional and national EPI objectives.

B. Key Responsibilities and Duties

1. Planning and Coordination

o Support Woreda health teams in developing micro-plans, mapping PHCU catchment areas, and

identifying zero-dose and under-immunized children through headcounts and documentation.

o Assist health facility teams in operational planning and conducting systematic reviews to improve

coverage for zero-dose and under-immunized groups.

o Facilitate meetings with local sectors and community representatives, map community structures,

and engage local leaders in demand-generation activities.

o Collaborate with the Woreda health office to implement project activities and organize monthly

and quarterly review meetings, ensuring proper documentation and reporting.

o Facilitate community mobilization efforts to enhance immunization uptake, focusing on high-

priority groups through advocacy and awareness campaigns

2. Program Implementation, Supply Chain Management, and Capacity building

o Organize sensitization workshops on male engagement, zero-dose awareness, and routine

immunization (RI) for community and religious leaders; establish and support women-to-women

groups, traditional birth attendants, and caregivers for immunization advocacy.

o Collaborate with Woreda health offices to facilitate demand-creation campaigns during national

health/immunization days and implement periodic intensified routine immunization (PIRI)

activities.

o Deliver hands-on training to health facility staff and community health workers on immunization

practices, data quality, cold chain logistics, and supportive supervision to improve service quality.

o Oversee vaccine stock management, cold chain equipment functionality, and transportation

logistics to ensure effective storage, distribution, and last-mile delivery to health posts and

facilities.

o Provide technical support to health staff, focusing on strengthening immunization delivery and

improving operational efficiency.

3. Supervision, Monitoring, reporting and Data Management

o Conduct regular supervision and provide technical support to health staff, enhancing their

capacity in immunization delivery.

o Prepare and share reports from supervision sessions, review meetings, and follow-up actions,

while regularly reporting implementation performance and challenges to the Zonal EPI

Coordinator.

o Oversee data collection, use RI Tool data for program improvement, and submit regular data

reports to the Zonal EPI Coordinator.

o Collect and report immunization coverage data and assist with end-line assessments for targeted

Woredas.

o Use monitoring data to identify gaps and provide actionable recommendations for strengthening

immunization services

o Perform other assignments and responsibilities as assigned by immediate supervisor



C. Expected Deliverables and Outputs

o A completed and approved Woreda-level EPI micro-plan with defined activity schedules.

o Registered list of zero dose and under-immunized children from the selected high-priority kebeles

and communities of the project woredas

o Prepare and share weekly/Bi-weekly progress update

o Monthly and quarterly reports on immunization activities, coverage rates, drop-out rates vaccine

stock status, and cold chain conditions.

o Training and supervision reports, detailing facility visits and any technical support provided to

health workers.

o Community mobilization and demand-generation activity reports.

D. Required Qualifications and Skills

o Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, or a related field; training in EPI is highly desirable.

o Minimum of 4 years of experience in immunization and public health, at least 2 years of

experience in routine immunization, preferably with field experience in hard-to-reach areas.

o Knowledge of immunization procedures, vaccine management, and cold chain logistics.

o Strong interpersonal and communication skills in both the local language and English; ability to

engage effectively with community leaders, health workers, and other stakeholders.

o Good organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and adapt

to field conditions.

E. Work Conditions and Requirements

o Full-time position based in the woreda with frequent travel to health facilities and community

sites.

o Flexibility to work outside regular hours during immunization campaigns, PIRI programs, and

outbreak responses.

F. Cross-cutting

The EPI Project Officer/EPI Expert must adhere to the organization’s policies, including the code of

conduct, child protection policy, and health and safety regulations. Compliance with ethical standards is

mandatory.
