Introduction
The Partnership for Pastoralist Development Association (PAPDA) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) committed to humanitarian emergency response, development, and peacebuilding for pastoralist and agro-pastoralist communities in Somali, Oromia, Afar, and Southern regions. Operating across 17 zones and 15 woredas, PAPDA focuses on WASH, Livelihood Development, Peacebuilding, ESNFI, Protection (CCM, CP& GBV), Health, and Nutrition.
With financial support from PADD (Protestant Agency of Diakonia and Development), PAPDA is implementing the Integrated Livelihood Development Project in Bokolmayo District, Liben Zone, Somali Region. The project aims to enhance household income, livestock production, food security, and health education while integrating GBV prevention, early warning systems, and peacebuilding initiatives. To achieve this, PAPDA seeks qualified personnel for the following position: Animal Health Officer
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and coordinate livestock health interventions, including vaccination campaigns, parasite control, and disease prevention.
- Train pastoralists on animal husbandry best practices, fodder production, and nutrition management.
- Strengthen community-based veterinary services by training local veterinary assistants.
- Conduct livestock disease surveillance and work with authorities to implement early warning systems.
- Support rangeland management and water access initiatives for livestock.
- Distribute essential veterinary drugs and equipment to pastoralist communities.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with local government offices and partners.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of livestock health programs and provide regular reports.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Veterinary Science, Animal Health, or Livestock Management.
- At least 3 and above years of experience in pastoralist livestock health and disease prevention.
- Technical expertise in animal disease control, vaccination strategies, and community-based veterinary services.
- Experience in working with pastoralist communities on animal husbandry and rangeland management
