Introduction
The Partnership for Pastoralist Development Association (PAPDA) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) committed to humanitarian emergency response, development, and peacebuilding for pastoralist and agro-pastoralist communities in Somali, Oromia, Afar, and Southern regions. Operating across 17 zones and 15 woredas, PAPDA focuses on WASH, Livelihood Development, Peacebuilding, ESNFI, Protection (CCM, CP& GBV), Health, and Nutrition.
With financial support from PADD (Protestant Agency of Diakonia and Development), PAPDA is implementing the Integrated Livelihood Development Project in Bokolmayo District, Liben Zone, Somali Region. The project aims to enhance household income, livestock production, food security, and health education while integrating GBV prevention, early warning systems, and peacebuilding initiatives. To achieve this, PAPDA seeks qualified personnel for the following positions: Agronomist, Livelihood Officer, Animal Health Officer, and Public Health Officer.
Detailed Roles and Responsibilities.
Agronomist
📍 Duty Station: Bokolmayo District, Liben Zone
📌 Reporting to: Project Coordinator
⏳ Employment Type: Contract-based
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement sustainable agricultural practices to improve food security.
- Train pastoral and agro-pastoral communities on climate-smart farming, soil fertility management, and irrigation techniques.
- Provide technical assistance on drought-resistant crops, improved seed varieties, and pest control strategies.
- Support community-based crop production activities to strengthen market access.
- Promote agroforestry, soil conservation, and water harvesting techniques to combat desertification.
- Coordinate with local government agencies and agricultural extension workers for enhanced service delivery.
- Conduct impact assessments and submit regular reports on project progress.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, or Agricultural Development.
- At least 3 and above years of experience in agricultural programs within pastoralist/agro-pastoralist settings.
- Strong knowledge of climate-resilient farming and community-based interventions.
- Experience in capacity-building and training local farmers.
